Sorry for the late blog but once again the Lorne Pub-to-Pier-to-Pub was a great success with twenty swimmers taking to the waters. The winner this year was The Hoff in a photo finish with Jonno. Special mention to Michelle who completed the double in what was her first ocean swim!
I would also like to mention the Frankston to Brighton swim this year (Australia's longest swim). We have been approached by the management of the Brighton Baths for some type of joint venture. Talks are only in the early stages but this would be a project for 2014.
The Black-Ice club are happy to welcome three new members to our ever growing list of sucessful English Channel Solo swimmers: David Perkins, Dan Kennedy and Matt Harry. This brings our list to well over twenty swimmers. This accounts for 20% of all Australians who have completed the Channel. Special mention to Michael 'Tractor' Gregory for another sucessful solo swim. Unfortunately Mike missed out on his his attempt to complete a double.
Black-Ice regularly receives calls and emails in regards to the English Channel. We are more than happy to help or mentor any swimmer that needs help or guidance, be it coaching, training or logistics. We have over 20 successful solo swimmers who are more than happy to pass on their knowledge. We do not charge or ask for money. We just ask that you obey and resprect our simple rule - NO WETSUITS!
Next Year we will be running our 14th eight hour English Channel Qualifying Swim. The swim always takes place around Anzac Day. In the last two years we have been joined by the Vlad Swim Club from Sydney. Vlad's squad has enjoyed a fair amount of success over a short period. I believe they have over 18 swimmers booked for next years swim season. This is an amazing result! At this rate they are due to pass Black-Ice for the number of solo swimmers to sucessfully cross the channel. It's about time we made the trip to Sydney and joined Vlad and his crew for a swim!
