Annette Kellerman made three unsuccessful attempts at the channel and spent time at Mentone Girls Grammar School [just down the road], so i guess it is their pool that boasts her name. Also, I once swam at a pool in Marrickville up in Sydney several years ago which was named after her.
Given that she is regarded as the founder of synchronished swimming, I am guessing she was played by Esther Williams in the movie
