Australia's Longest Swim Race

I have just picked my preliminary teams for our upcoming relay race in Port Philip Bay. The date still isn't in concrete but should be around the Melbourne Cup weekend.

There will be six swimmers in each of the two teams and the numbers will be finalised once I find out who is available on the day.

Don't worry if your name doesn't appear on the preliminary list. Contact me if this is the case.

We have decided to change the course so family and friends can follow everyones progress during the day.

The event will start at 6am at Frankston pier following the beach all the way to Brighton Sea Baths with various check points on route. The course will be approximately 35km in length with change overs every half an hour. A winning time would be somewhere around 10 hours.

There will be no prizes, no sponsors, no caps or tee shirts. The reward will be the honour of being on the winning team!!  Naturally, the losers will be shouting the drinks!!

Teams have been carefully selected on ability and I've tried to make the spread of talent as equal as possible. Hopefully it will come down to the wire at Brighton.

Teams will be announced at the annual English Channel dinner and farewell party at Harry's house.

I've had some second hand reports that a few Black Ice swimmers have been in secret training for this event. I can assure you that I am well aware of who they are but yours truly has not been a part of these secret sessions.

I'll be making sure these members will be on the same team, so victory will be even sweeter. I just hope it's a rough day with plenty of jellyfish, making it a tough day on the water.
